Evaluation of the Research Buildings Programme

The evaluation commissioned by the Joint Science Conference (GWK) of the Federal Government and the states (Länder) of the Research Buildings and Major Equipment Programme (pursuant to Article 91b of the Basic Law), which has been in existence since 2007, was concluded in 2018 with a very positive overall result.

In its final report, the expert commission headed up by Professor Jörg Hacker, then President of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina – National Academy of Sciences, stated that the higher education landscape is benefitting substantially and for the long term from the funding of research buildings and large-scale equipment. Thanks to the programme, universities can participate in national and international competitions in science and research under significantly improved conditions in the infrastructure sector, as intended by the Federal Government and the states (Länder).
